SUMMER YOUTH SCULLING CAMP 2016: The Youth Sculling Camp program offers experienced (high school) sweep rowers an orientation to the sculling equipment, boat handling and safety and an in-depth course in rowing both single and double shells. Sessions will be given in a 2x (double scull) and will be introduced to rowing in a 1x (single) scull. Rowers will alternate between water, erg and land workouts for this 4-hour morning camp.
• Youth Sculling Camp #1: 8 Sessions: TUE-FRI @ 8:00AM-Noon, JUN 21-24, JUN 28-JULY 16
• Youth Sculling Camp #2: 8 Sessions: TUE-FRI @ 8:00AM-Noon, JUL 12-16, JUL 19-29
REGISTRATION: Youth Sculling Camp, $250 for a two-week-long session. Each class is limited to 14 rowers. Registration Fees must be made through SignPayRow. http://www.signpayrow.com/pay-dues-and-fees.html
PREREQUISITE: No experience is required for Summer Youth Sculling Camp. Must be under 20 year old and able to swim
SWEEP ROWING PROGRAMS: The Introduction to Rowing and Learn to Row introductory classes offer participants an orientation to sweep rowing equipment, demonstration of basic rowing stroke, boat handling and safety. The goal of the introductory program is to develop a solid foundation in preparation for the Novice Sweep Program. After participants complete the Introduction to Rowing program they should continue with the Learn to Row class. After that, they are encouraged to join ORC, where they can further their training and rowing technique development.
• Introduction to Rowing: 6 Sessions TUE,THU @ 6:00-8:00PM, SUN @ 9:00-11:00AM, JUN 16, 17, 21, 23, 25, 28
• Learn to Row: 9 Sessions TUE,THU @ 6:00-8:00PM, SUN @ 9:00-11:00AM, JUL 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26
• Learn to Row: 9 Sessions MON, WED @ TBD, SAT @ 9:00-11:00AM SEP 12, 14, 16, 19, 21,23, 26, 28, 30.
REGISTRATION: Introduction to Rowing, $90; Learn to Row, $135. A class must have 8 participants to move forward. Fees may be paid via SignPayRow. http://www.signpayrow.com/pay-dues-and-fees.html
PREREQUISITE: No experience is required for Introduction to Rowing. Introduction to Rowing is a prerequisite for Learn to Row. Must be 18 years old and able to swim. High school and college students may take the program during the summer. High school rowers are always welcome to volunteer to help with learn to row classes — community service hours are offered
SCULLING PROGRAMS: The Learn to Scull (each rower uses two oars) program offers participants an orientation to sculling equipment, demonstration of the basic rowing stroke, boat handling and safety. Sessions are given in a 1x with pontoons first, after which the student will transition to rowing in a single without pontoons depending on skill levels achieved.
